About Me

KATIES KIDS KITCHEN BLUE LOGO
Harry cooking as a child

In 2014, I had the idea to open a children's nursery that integrated my passion for cooking with children. This led to a move from to Hartley Business Centre in Shrewsbury.

A decade later the nursery has just celebrated 10 wonderful years, and the kitchen remains an integral part of our bespoke curriculum. In addition to the nursery and the kitchen, I am fortunate to work with many community projects, using cookery to help children and adults grow their confidence. Recently, I have had the opportunity to work within a number of residential homes for residents with dementia, and with community groups, further broadening the impact of Katie's Kids Kitchen. â€‹

The Wellington boys

Katie's Kids Kitchen was born in 2007 at home during a Sunday lunch I was preparing for my husband and our three boys all under the age of seven. All of my boys loved to cook, but it was my middle son, Henry, who, at just two years old, would always drag a chair to the work surface and say, "Mummy, my help." I couldn't believe how much he could do at such a young age, and from then on, he began to help me with most meals.

Seeing Henry's enthusiasm inspired me to offer cookery classes to preschool children. Within a few months, I opened a small stall in the Shrewsbury Market, offering weekly preschool classes. Later, I expanded to offer birthday parties with a choice of seven different themes, running three parties each Saturday.

The growing demand necessitated a move to larger premises at St. Julian's Friars, Shrewsbury, where I combined after-school cookery classes and a Pudding Club. This was a huge hit, leading to the introduction of holiday classes and establishing links with schools for after-school clubs, and curriculum-based cooking sessions.
The Wellington family

I offer bespoke classes and courses tailored for older children who are keen cooks, as well as themed workshops for groups of children. Every day is unique, with different menus, cooking styles, and age range of students. I feel privileged to share my knowledge and experience with anyone who wishes to learn.

Katie’s Kids Kitchen is now a firm favourite of parents of Shropshire looking to introduce their children to the joys of cooking.

Thanks for reading and visiting my site. I love what I do, and I love seeing the happy faces of Shropshire kids leaving with a smile as big as mine.

Above all, I love my family, even Henry is all grown up! They support me every step of the way, thank you boys.
