I have worked closely with head teachers, and community leaders in Shropshire and The Wrekin, together examining ways that my classes can help benefit child development. Many of the examples I have put into practise;

• Promoting Healthy Eating. Children make healthy eating dishes with a range of fresh produce. We discuss the ingredients they are using and the benefits of a healthy diet.

• SMSC: Children compare food and where they originate from, understanding different cultures. Cooking could be tailored around a specific country or culture if required.

• SMSC / PHSE: by Giving children confidence to work together in pairs sharing the bowls and ingredients focussing on the importance of rules in the kitchen. They learn about sharing and taking turns as well as the importance of hygiene.

• Maths: Learning about weighing and measuring in a fun and hands-on environment.

• Literacy Stimulus: Children can follow up the sessions creating recipes, cook books, or writing about their cookery course.

• British Values: Children learn about respect for each other, other cultures and countries as well as learning about table manners and politeness along the way.



I would welcome the opportunity to meet with representatives of schools and discuss ways to help promote healthy eating initiatives.
We bring all of the ingredients , all purchased locally and fresh. We bring all equipment,  aprons, chef hats, and anything else required. All we need at your site is running water and an oven.

"Katie mentioned that she wanted to work with older residents and care homes to bring cooking to the residents again. When I asked, about what she would teach them to cook she said “We’re not teaching them to cook. They already know, we are just helping them remember”. I knew right then she was the right person for the job and this could be something special. 

We decided to link all of the themes of remembrance, heritage, wartime and traditional baking together in a dementia friendly way, and that is how we arrived at the idea of an ‘Afternoon Tea to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-day’, with our residential homes in Lawley. 

Katie adapted her workshops seamlessly to meet the needs of the residents. The memory triggering aspects of dementia-friendly cooking brought back so much joy to one of the residents, it was heart warming to see her so animated and happy to be cooking again. Another lady sweetly said “Oh its been years since I’ve baked anything, how lovely!”.

I cannot recommend Katie highly enough, whatever she sets her heart on is given the warmth and generosity she brings."

"Katie ran three fantastic cooking sessions for us at Greenfields. The children were thoroughly engaged and learning about seasonal ingredients. Some children can still recall why we add garlic to food.

The children really enjoyed wearing their hats and aprons and being involved in the preparation process.

Katie was really good at encouraging all of the children to try their vegetable tarts. Some of the children were pleasantly surprised about how much they enjoyed eating vegetables when they thought they didn't like them."

"Katie has worked with Wrockwardine Wood and Trench Parish Council on two occasions, the first in February 2024 half term, providing a session for 14 children and the second in the Easter holiday 2024 running a session for 20 children. At both sessions children were between the ages of 5 and 1 years old.

Katie's Kids Kitchen came highly recommended by Kerry Woodhouse at Safer, Stronger Communities and we were really impressed with the quality of the session including her

interaction with the children, her professionalism and the enjoyment of the children present.

Katie is an engaging provider who delivers interactive activities giving children basic cookery skills in a fun learning environment. Parents of the children who attended both sessions were very complementary about their children's experience.
